6. #6 Aaron Scott

For the next profile we meet the Club’s foremost knitwear model Aaron Scott. An opening batsman in the Alistair Cook mode (tall, technically correct, patient, not many scoring strokes) it would be fair to say Aaron’s senior career has exceeded expectations after a Colts career in which he was a useful member of a strong side that lost at Chelmsford in the Matchplay final in 2013, albeit he was often somewhat in the shadow of other players in that team.

Aaron is in the shadow no longer however, not least because he’s grown about 6 inches both in height and in thigh circumference, but also because with greater strength and exposure to men’s cricket, allied to a sound technique he’s scored runs initially at 3rd XI and then 2nd XI level, making a deserved 1s debut at the end of last season.

Aaron impressively has yet to hit a six in nearly 100 appearances, but specialising in batting for long periods of time with a solid defence and a couple of strong scoring options, Aaron is basically a right handed Scandinavian looking Kurt Whisker, although if his next challenge is forging a productive opening partnership with Kurt, then both men will need to work on their 1’s game to keep the scoreboard ticking over whilst they play themselves in.

Outside of batting, Aaron’s presence is not really required as his bowling is frankly odd (although unbelievably he has a league 5 wicket haul in the 3’s from the first half of the 2013 season when he played as a bowler) and his glass back, lack of athleticism and pop gun arm would make him the ideal slip/gully fielder were it not for the fact that he can’t catch anything arriving at more than gentle pace.

Off the pitch, Aaron appears regularly on police CCTV cameras as he auditions for the ICF at West Ham away games and also drunk on various Facebook photos, usually with older women both in the City and various Mediterranean resorts.

GORESBROOK

When did you make your Goresbrook debut? Made my debut for the colts side back in 2009, then playing for the adults side shortly after from what I can remember (Aaron’s senior debut was for the Sunday 2’s in June 2011, so his memory is as sharp as his fielding)

Describe your Goresbrook career in 10 words or less. Farcical.

Who is your favourite GCC Teammate (current or retired) & why? Lawrence Walsh - Absolute legend of the club! Scores runs and takes wickets for fun...apart from that time at Stock! Loves a jagerbomb too!

Most memorable game(s)? From a team point of view it has to be the 2013 Matchplay final. It was an excellent day, one I will never forget.

Which GCC player do you hate facing in the nets? Shaun Ross because he's an absolute lunatic.

What’s the best thing about Goresbrook CC? The fact we are one club. Made some great mates through this club!

CRICKET

What other clubs/XI's have you played for? I have only ever played for Goresbrook.

All-time cricketing hero? Probably be Joe Root. Class act!

Favourite cricket ground & why? I played at Great Waltham this year was a lovely ground the tea was good too! (Is James Milner filling this in?)

Describe the best catch you have ever taken? Probably against Rayleigh Fairview this year. I was fielding at point the ball looped over Lawrence Walsh at gully (any ball that doesn’t go straight to him these days) and I managed to run round and catch it after a full stretched dive. Apart from that I normally drop everything. (Correct)

Best player played against? Harry Levy (by ‘played against’ here, Aaron means ‘netted at the same time as at Ilford’)

MISCELLANEOUS

Best sporting achievement outside cricket? There have not been many but won numerous team/player awards when I used to play football.

Where would you live if money was no object? Dubai

What would you rescue first if your house was on fire? My phone (followed we assume by his jumper collection)

Give us a sporting tip for 2017? New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl.

Tell us something about yourself that nobody at Goresbrook knows? I once represented Havering borough in the London Youth Games in Judo.
