Goresbrook Sunday league side suffered at the hands of Bardoli opener Faruk Jabbar who hit a superb 112, the backbone of his side’s total of 234-9 from their 40 overs. Despite early wickets for Joe Barwick and Jordan Calverley, a depleted Goresbrook attack had little answer once Jabbar started to fire until Adi Kumar entered the attack. The 15 year old Kumar picked up 3-44, showing great maturity in giving the ball some flight against batsmen looking to hit him out of the ground and along with Calverley, who took 2-26 in a rare outing for his fast-medium bowling, the pair ensured that Goresbrook weren’t chasing an outrageous score.
In the event, 234 was more than adequate as Goresbrook could only muster 163, a fine knock of 29 from Keith Friend held things together against the new ball, but only Jordan Calverley with 33 and Billy Chapman with 29 were able to break free against some disciplined bowling, the key spell being a middle order collapse from 80-2 to 105-7 as Friend and Calverley’s partnership ended and then slipper Jordan Harris went for 1 followed by immediately by Kane Messenger comprehensively bowled for a first ball duck. The game effectively ended as a contest at that stage, with only some late fireworks from Chapman in partnership with Adi Kumar lending a respectable look to proceedings, Bardoli running out winners by 71 runs.
