Goresbrook remain unbeaten the Essex Sunday league, as a fine 70 from captain Jordan Harris was the bedrock of their total of 198 at Harold Wood.
Harris batted with carefree abandon, hitting eight boundaries piling on the runs with support from 14 year old Danny Gillham (33) and Jordan Calverley (26). At one stage Goresbrook looked set for a total in excess of 200, but a late hat-trick from Umair Khan, saw Brook struggling to bat out their 40 overs and they were hustled out for 198 when last man Joe Barwick was skipped run out in the final over.
The Harold Wood reply was soon in trouble as Jones and Barwick picked up early wickets, but a partnership developed between Stuart Connor (34) and Jamie Goldstein (54) leaving the game well poised. However in form spinner Adi Kumar tilted the game in the visitors favour with a four wicket salvo. Kumar removed Connor and took the key wicket of Craig Sampson and when Kane Messenger had Goldstein caught behind, the visitors were on top.
A late rally from King (20) and Khan (18) threatened a Harold Wood revival, but the introduction of Joe Curley’s under-appreciated off-spin saw the wickets start to tumble again, Goresbrook bowling Wood out for 151 off the first ball of the 37th over.
Brook have a tough fixture at home to old rivals and national indoor champions Belhus next week, but Harris is enjoying the campaign with his young side.
"I am enjoying the campaign with this young side.", he said enigmatically, before returning to his Racing Post.
