Goresbrook produced an excellent performance to inflict the second ESL defeat of the season on SNEL Premier Division club Buckhurst Hill, an excellent bowling and fielding performance turning the tables after Hermes Solomonides with an aggressive 70 led Buckhurst Hill to 80-2 after Joe Barwick took the early wicket of Russell Beckett for a duck. The introduction of Jordan Calverley saw 2 quick wickets fall to start the home side’s collapse as he trapped Solomonides lbw and then bowled Ricky Reynolds for 8. Shane Barwick and Kane Messenger then picked up a brace of wickets each as Hill were dismissed for 151 in the 36th over.
The Goresbrook reply started well as Joe Curley (30) and Mark Bird (26) got good value for their shots as Buckhurst Hill attacked and a minor wobble when their dismissals, plus those of Charlie Thompson and A. Ron Scott saw Goresbrook lurch to 90-4 was steadied by Shane Barwick (27) and Calverley (22*) leaving Kane Messenger to hit the winning runs in the 39th over.
The win consolidates Goresbrook’s third place in their first ESL Premier Division campaign, with games against Great & Little Warley and Gidea Park & Romford to come.
