Maund and Calverley put Billericay to the sword

Brook made it 2 from 2 in the Essex Sunday league with a comfortable win at Blunts Hall Road against Billericay. A decent opening partnership of 65 between Kurt Whisker (21) and Shane Barwick (36) proved a platform for the in-form Toby Maund to kick-on from, Maund hit a fluent 62 and then after Mark Leslie Patrick Bird failed to trouble the scorers, Jordan Calverley gave the innings a further boost with a fine unbeaten 71 to shepherd Goresbrook to 233-5 from 37 overs, the game being shortened slightly from the scheduled 40 overs due to rain.

In reply, Billericay were in trouble early on as paceman Shaddai Smith, returning from injury, took 2 early wickets for 13 in a promising spell and the hosts were indebted to a violent 87 from their number 7 batsmen Daniel Harford to keep the game competitive, Goresbrook eventually dismissing Billericay for 182 in the 35th over with wickets spread around Shane Barwick taking 2 for 45 from 4.3 expensive overs and Toby Maund being responsible for 2 run outs as he continues his stellar start to the season.
