Old Boys Overpowered by Goresbrook Sunday Best

Goresbrook’s Sunday eleven gained their first victory of the 2022 campaign to complete a memorable weekend for the Club. 'Brook included Joe Barwick in their line up with the 28 year old clocking up his 400th Senior Appearance. After winning the toss the hosts elected to bat first and the visiting attack was soon put to the sword by Zulfi, who clubbed an impressive 72 as Howzer (42) and Sarvar (32) played supporting roles. Spinner, Shane Barwick’s excellent spell of 4 for 23 coupled with Ted Ivory’s 2 for 33 kept the rubber in the balance before tea was taken.
After the interval openers Kane Messenger (55) and Lee Jones (54) gave ‘Brook the best possible start with excellent half centuries. Afzal Hussain (33) kept the scoreboard ticking over allowing Barwick (21 not) and Mark Bird (13 not) to see the visitors over the line for a comfortable seven wicket success with almost ten overs to spare.
