All Tied Up !

A competitive but thoroughly entertaining tie was fought out by Goresbrook and Scintilla iin this local derby at May & Bakers Sports Ground on Sunday.
After winning the toss, visiting skipper Adil Ijaz elected to bat first and saw opener Mohammad Parvez fashion a compelling half century with support from Morshadur Rahman who chipped in with 25 before becoming one of Lee Jones’ three victims at a cost of 34. Shane Barwick (3 for 24) and Ben Atkins (1 for 26) allowed ‘Brook to limit the visitors to 198 for 9 from their allotted 40 overs.
After tea, 17 year old Ted Ivory led his sides reply with a solid knock of 20 before Rahmans four wicket salvo decimated the hosts’ early order. Lee Jones batting at number 7 was the architect of a superb Goresbrook recovery hitting an undefeated 78 finding the rope on 6 occasions. Dagenham Park Sixth former Pawanpreet Singh hit a swashbuckling 37 from only 29 balls to set the alarm bells ringing for Scintilla sharing in a 72 run stand for the eighth wicket with Jones. Just as victory looked assured, Atkins holed out with scores level and the two teams had to settle for a share the spoils.
