A ragtag Goresbrook XI visited the Village Green at North Stifford for a friendly against a similarly bobtail Belhus.
Losing the toss, Brook were asked to field in bright but Arctic conditions and were left to rue a simple dropped catch off the innings second delivery as the beneficiary, Jack Plane, went on to amass 111* out of Belhus' total of 238-3.
The sole successes were: a Lee Jones catch off Daryl Forward; a John Nicholls catch off Harry Jackson and a notable castling of the evergreen Wayne Read by Joe Barwick.
Nevertheless there was some good fielding on show despite the cold fingers.
Brooks reply got away briskly as Leonard Thoufick hit successive boundaries but a bout of cramp put paid to his afternoon having scored 12.
Alfie Horan (16), Daryl Forward (14) and John Nicholls (22) all got starts but couldn't go any further. Harry Jackson was the pick of the batsmen with a fine 71 but with little support otherwise Brooks reply fell increasingly behind the rate and eventually petered out to 168-8.
The game was played in a good spirit by both teams across the full 80 overs and was enjoyed by all.
