Goresbrook's season in the Essex Sunday League Premier division ended in defeat against a strong Chelmsford side at Chelmer Park.
With rain forecast and a result required in this play off semi final the game was cut to 30 overs by mutual agreement with Chelmsford batting first. Despite losing Hoyte (5) early on Chelmsford scored quickly with Dan Hagan hitting a run a ball 58 before falling to Shane Barwick. James Clifford (37), Carter (22) and Crowther (24) kept the scoreboard ticking along whilst wickets were shared between the Goresbrook attack.
In response Brook fell 22 runs short with Greaves (29) and Jordan Calverley (58) doing the bulk of the work at the top of the order. A late unbeaten 33 from Billy Chapman was in vain as the required rate climbed steadily and the visitors ran out of overs.
Captain Jordan Harris, who stepped down as captain following the game commented
'To actually make the play off stage of the competition is a good achievement for us. We now know what the quality is in this division and we will need to improve as individuals and a team for next season but that will have to be under someone elses leadership. I felt we could have won today but once again, we left ourselves too much to do against a good bowling and fielding side.'
