'Brook Slay St. George

Goresbrook’s Sunday side welcomed Anson St. George to May & Bakers Sports Ground on Sunday and both teams contributed to an exciting game as Goresbrook clinched victory by 6 runs in a drama drenched finish. ‘Keeper Craig Ivey kept his cool with a solid 32 as the hosts slumped to 51 for 5 early doors. Shane Barwick maintained his excellent form leading the recovery finding the rope 13 times in a scintillating 68. Skipper Kane Messenger thrashed 4 fours and a mighty six in a cavalier 35 whilst Joe Barwick supported with 17 enabling ‘Brook to set Saints a challenging target of 193.

After the tea interval, Owen Elsom made the early breakthrough but Atteridge (39) and Bones (37) brought stability to the visitors reply. Stuart Greaves and Shane Barwick bagged a brace of scalps apiece to keep the match in the balance but Gilbert 22 and Evans (20 not) pushed on in search of victory for the visitors. Messenger claimed a wicket to swing the game back in Goresbrook’s favour and some economical bowling and excellent fielding finally tipped the balance as the Dagenham outfit claimed an exciting 6 run victory.
