Goats outpace Stallions

Goresbrook made it two out of two in the Essex Sunday league with a comfortable victory over East Essex Stallions. Jordan Harris and Jordan Calverley provided the basis for an imposing total of 263, Harris falling one short of a half-century and Calverley hitting a 65 ball knock of 79 as Goresbrook accelerated through the middle overs. Bryan Atkins and Kurt Whisker then provided a late flourish, Atkins bludgeoning 37 from 18 balls and regular opener Whisker, coming in down the order, added 19 off 11 balls, as Brook pushed past the 250 mark to post 263-7 from their 40 overs.

In reply Stallions lost their first 3 batsmen for ducks, as off-spinner Toby Maund caused havoc with the new ball, however a middle order rally saw the visitors to respectability, with Joe Barwick’s bowling proving particularly attractive to the East Essex stroke-players. However wickets were still falling at regular intervals and by the time Bryan Atkins capped a good all-round performance with the last two wickets, Stallions were dismissed for 170 with 7 overs still remaining.
