Upminster too strong for Brook

Goresbrook u11's played a Havering league game against Upminster on Wednesday at the May and Baker club.
A good looking wicket and a bright sunny evening plus an XI loaded with experience prompted skipper Phil Thoufick to bat first, a move that prospered immediately as Albie Smith and Stanley Sleight set off fast out of the blocks, Smith racing to 10 and Sleight to 21. However these two batsmen fell to sharp catches and then 3 more quick wickets meant the innings had to be rebuilt by Saad Ali and Liam Elsom but the loss of momentum meant the innings could only limp to a total of 88-6 from 20 overs.
Upminsters reply started off steadily but was soon put under pressure as Phil Thoufick grabbed 2 wickets in 2 balls. Liam Elsom came on a grabbed a wicket first ball, Albert Sleight also took a wicket and Thoufick returned to the attack and grabbed a third courtesy of a Liam Elsom catch at point, however the visiting batsmen recovered the momentum with regular boundaries and several wides and won the game with 9 balls to spare.
Overall there were some solid performances but more focus and discipline is required to keep the momentum flowing whilst batting and to eradicate the wides when bowling, with which a positive result will surely ensue.
