A match to remember

Goresbrook U11's took to the field on a bitterly cold morning having lost the toss against West Essex on Sunday morning.
Skipper Phil Thoufick rotated his bowlers well and, after a few minor adjustments, set an effective field that made run scoring a difficult task for the visitors.
Wickets fell regularly as Goresbrook's bowlers kept a tight line. A brace for Albie Smith plus further wickets for Thoufick, Harry Ivory (who also held two catches in his favourite short cover position), Stanley Sleight and Charlie Trowell. However all the bowlers contributed to the pressure that restricted West Essex to just 60- 6 from their 20 overs.
Brook's reply got off to a good start as 10 runs were scored from the first over and a further 5 from the second by Albie Smith and Stanley Sleight but then the well drilled and competitive Chingford based outfit applied the brakes and made run scoring a rare occurrence. After both openers had fallen, Phil Thoufick and Saad Ali began rebuilding the innings adding singles and then boundaries before, with just 7 required, Ali was run out for 9. A brief outburst of chaos followed as first Charlie Trowell was run out, Grace Wood was spectacularly caught behind square and Archie Dias was also run out, but with the nervous energy from a sizeable home support creeping across the boundary, Thoufick held his nerve to level the scores with a boundary and then a scurrying Ben Atkins made his ground to secure the winning run. 10 year old Thoufick finished on 21*.
West Essex were magnanimous in defeat and contributed hugely to a highly entertaining game.
