Goresbrook travelled to Rainham on a very blustery day for a season opening 8 a side contest.
All the youngsters bowled with reasonable accuracy in difficult conditions and there were wickets for Albert Sleight, debutant Saad Ali and two for Harry Ivory . Brook's Essex Girls U11 player Grace Wood put in a tidy performance with the gloves taking a smart catch down the leg side. However Rainham's considerably more experienced team kept the score ticking over before a final over onslaught took the total to 309-4 adjusted down to 289 under Terriers rules.
Brooks reply started solidly with Grace Wood and Albert Sleight both unbeaten after their 5 overs but sharp fielding kept the total down.
Several batsmen were undone by the erratic bounce of the pitch and there was little to cheer about save for an impressive chipped off drive that stopped just short of the rope from Saad Ali, who finished his debut with the innings top score of 6 not out.
Brook finished on 266-5 adjusted to 241.
Coach Owen Elsom was impressed with the attitude and application of all the players after a long winter cooped up in the Sports Hall at Castle Green and is hopeful of an equally diligent performance in the games to come.
