Goresbrook U11 255-4 beat Ardleigh Green U11 248-8 by 7 runs

Sundays Havering League clash with Ardleigh Green looked in serious doubt after heavy overnight rain but an early pitch inspection and a brighter forecast made the decision to play a lot easier and the the game that ensued totally justified that decision.
Frankie Boland's lads were asked to bat first and George Sleight 17* and Krishan Kumar 13* made light of the soft pitch as they smashed 14 from the first over and 31 from their allotted four overs, Sleight hitting 3 boundaries and Kumar two in their undefeated knocks. The next pair of Pawan Singh and Stanley Sleight added a further ten runs without loss. However some poor shot selection saw 4 wickets fall across the next two pairs. Last man Frankie Boland added a further eleven runs without loss to leave Brook on a Terriers adjusted total of 255-4 from their allotted 20 overs.
Ardleigh Greens batsmen looked in fine fettle as their opening pair added 21 without loss. Krishan Kumar then entered the attack and grabbed a wicket that put the brakes on the visitors reply. In form Stanley Sleight inflicted further damage when he took two wickets in an over in his spell of 2-2 which included a maiden over. Matthew Elsom grabbed his first wicket of the season thanks to a catch by Frankie Boland behind the stumps. However at the end of the 16th over Ardeligh Green were on 79-4; 4 runs ahead under Terriers rules so Brook's lads knew that they had to take wickets and bowl tight.
And this they did: Ted Ivory conceded just one run from his over; Pawan Singh conceded 4 but nabbed an important wicket before Krishan Kumar took two in two. With one over to go Brook were 5 ahead but this soon became 10 when George Sleight enticed the batsmen into an ill advised drive which Ted Ivory gobbled up at cover. Three subsequent singles were not enough and Goresbrook found themselves victors by the slender margin of 7 runs.
After a heavy defeat in their previous game this was a fine return to form for the boys as they bowled with confidence to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Bowling figures:
George Sleight 3-0-12-1
Pawan Singh 3-0-15-1
Krishan Kumar 3-0-9-3
Stanley Sleight 2-1-2-2
Tyler Fredericks 2-0-8-0
Matthew Elsom 2-0-19-1
Nathan Dowridge 2-0-13-0
