It was goodnight from me and goodnight from him as Darren Boland and Darren Ivory lead Goresbrook 4's to victory in their division 9 TRippon Mid Essex league game against Eastwood at Belfairs on Saturday.
Eastwood batted steadily throughout the innings but were never able to accelerate against a largely teenage bowling attack. There were wickets for Leonard Thoufick, in his first game following the exam season, Darren Ivory and Steve Rooke but the damage was largely done by 3 run outs that kept Eastwood down to 202-6 from their 40 overs. Darren Ivory, as he did the previous week took a brace of catches.
Brook again opened with the experienced pair of Steve Rooke and Paul Lowe and things started well as Rooke hooked a no ball to the boundary first up. Rooke fell with the score on 44 but enter Darren Boland, keen to regain his starring role in Brooks vets and rookies XI and together with Lowe this pair added 70 before Lowe departed for a typical resolute 61 with 10 fours in the 27th over with the score on 114. Alfie Horan fell cheaply but this brought Darren Ivory to the crease and he and Boland traded boundaries, much to the chagrin of the home attack and lead Brook home with 7 balls to spare, Boland reaching his half century at a run a ball with 8 boundaries for a first win in 4 games for Brook.
