Noak Hill Taverners 2's 220 for 9 beat Goresbrook 4's 175 for 9 by 45 runs

Goresbrook captain David Leadbeater won the toss and invited opposite number David Parker to bat first at The May & Baker Annex Ground on Saturday. Parker was rueing his luck as Danny Gilham (2 for 42) sent him back to the hutch for a duck. Viney Kumar also bagged a brace of scalps to give ‘Brook the early impetus but Ali Raza turned the tables with 3 sixes and 8 fours in an excellent knock of 62. Raj Jogia was also in fine fettle with the willow adding a quick fire 43 whilst 12 year old Aditya Kumar returned 2 for 23 with the ball. Ryan Paul, Atif Ali and youngster Jaden Simmonds each claimed a wicket as Taverners closed on 220 for 9 from their allotted 40 overs.

After tea it was 12 year old Aditya Kumar who earned the plaudits with a superb innings, demonstrating a maturity which belied his years. In the face of a seasoned attack, Kumar occupied the crease for fully 100 minutes facing 86 deliveries. The colt who usually plies his trade in the Under 13’s reached a landmark maiden half century with his sixth boundary but, with the adrenalin pumping, he departed next ball when stumped and left the field to an well earned ovation from both sides. Older brother Viney struck an impressive 34 whilst Dominic Gurden caught the eye with a useful 16. Mark Dublin (3 for 26) and Paul French (2 for 24) arrested Goresbrook’s advances but the hosts went down fighting as Ryan Paul (17 not) and Danny Gilham (16) produced late cameo performances however, Taverners secured victory by the margin of 45 runs.
