Goresbrook 3's won the toss and elected to bat on a very warm day at Robert Clack school on Saturday. Runs were scored freely but wickets were being lost just as easily until a 137 run partnership between Sikander Khan and Hayan Ansari took Brook to a healthy 239-6. Khan hit the ball hard and deservedly reached 3 figures in the final over with an exquisite straight drive in just 88 balls including 13 fours and 3 maximums. Ansari's contribution of 39 was well paced and selfless as he rotated the strike to help SK reach his milestone.
Roding Valley's reply was always up with the required run rate and the occasional wickets that did fall just brought another hungry batter to the crease to take advantage of some less than disciplined bowling and fielding. Niaz Chaudhury held the visitors reply together with a sensible 93 but fell to a catch by , who else?, SK with less than a dozen required and the target was surpassed with four overs to spare .
Three games in and Brooks report card is thus: dependable batting but fielding and bowling below par, nevertheless all the players have shown fight and passion and refuse to give up.
