Goresbrook 3's got a win under their belts in their first home game at Robert Clack school on Saturday.
Batting first, Brook got off to a good start as Andy Livett and Alfie Atkins put on a century stand against bowling that somewhat struggled in the breezy conditions, but both fell in quick succession and despite Livett featuring in a further half century stand with Taimur Tareen, Brook stuttered to 273-7 off their 40 overs, as GPR clawed their way back into the game.
The visitors reply got off to a frantic start as their experienced batters scampered quick singles catching the the home fielders on the back foot, however Hayan Ansari made the vital breakthrough as Teddy Atkins held a strongly pulled shot head high at square leg.
The pivotal moment of the innings came shortly after when the visitors skipper, James Griffin, clubbed a short ball from Owen Elsom to the deep square leg boundary and 13 year old Hammad Ahmed showed enormous composure to snaffle a catch inches from rope. Two more wickets for Elsom put Brook on top.
However from 94-5 , GPR consolidated as Glenn Winney lead a counter attack which, for the second successive week, was significantly assisted by some questionable ground fielding, until he edged a Sikander Khan delivery via the glove of Ben Atkins into the dependable left hand of Andy Livett.
Thereafter Brook tightened up and stifled the reply and Ahmed took a well deserved wicket to leave Brook winners by 54 runs.
