Captain Daryl Forward hit the fourth ball of the final over for four to clinch a thrilling 1 wicket win for Goresbrook 2nd XI against Benfleet 2s in an excellent game at the M&B Club. Benfleet were inserted by Forward and they battled to 212-6 from their 50 overs in the face of some hostile bowling from Israel Ochwo and tidy spells from the skipper (2-40) and Pawan Singh (2-22). Josh Brady (43), John Bull (42) and Charlie Huntley (37*) all impressing for the visitors.
The Goresbrook reply was centered around a fine hundred from opener Aaron Scott, however as wickets kept falling at the other end, there was a full scale panic when Scott became the 8th wicket to fall for 109 with 7 runs required. When Ochwo was trapped lbw in the final over, there were still 3 runs required, but number 11 Singh scrambled a single and then Forward hit the winning runs to provoke wild celebrations from his teammates.
The win takes the 2s up to 5th place after the first block of timed games.
