In the reverse fixture to the 1st XI, it was Stanford le Hope's 2's who were on top, although they couldn’t force a win against Brook in an encounter that ebbed and flowed.
The visitors racked up 228-9, with Neil Gray making 48, Matthew Lewis hitting 44 and 41 extras contributing to a total that after 20 overs looked like it could be any number, following a flying start from the visitors during which Richard Williams (2-30) provided the only cheer for Daryl Forward's men. However 15 overs later looked like it might be 30 less after the Brook slower bowlers Shiv Subramanian (2-42) and Craig Ivey (3-27) took control before the Stanford tail wagged as those bowlers tired, a declaration coming in the 48th over.
The Goresbrook reply was centered around an outstanding 124 from Harry Jackson, featuring 24 fours, but he had little support, as 3 wickets fell for 20 and then the middle order spent some time getting in before getting out after a handful of scoring shots, the visitors staying in control with some fine catching backing up an accurate bowling performance.
Only number 8 Williams (22*) managed to provide any lasting support, but as the run rate escalated the game started to peter out to a draw, much to the dismay of the Stanford fielders (who admittedly weren't exactly crowding the bat trying to force the win), the final over yielding an extra point to each side as Brook reached 200 and Jackson was finally dismissed run-out as Williams tried to pinch a quick single to reach 200.
