Shiv Subramanian was the star man as Goresbrook’s second string got off the mark with a fine win up the M11 in our first ever fixture against Harlow Town (although we played Stort frequently back in the Morrant years). Captain Daryl Forward led the way with the ball taking 3-49 from his 14 overs and with Subramanian backing him up with 3-27, Harlow Town lost regular wickets as they were eventually bowled out in the 49th over for 190.
In reply, two early wickets left Brook up against it, but a terrific and largely airborne partnership between Subramanian and Craig Ivey (43) took the score to 120 before Ivey became the third man out in the 22nd over. With Forward’s men now well in advance of the required run rate, Subramanian opened up with some tremendous shots and brought up one of the better 100’s you’ll see at this level with an audacious switch hit, before he was bowled for 101 featuring 13 fours and 3 sixes.
That left a handful of runs required and veteran Darren Ivory and youngster George Godfrey picked them off with no further alarms, Brook getting home in the 38th over with Harlow Town rueing what might have been had they taken their catches.
