Goresbrook’s second string lost a thriller to high-flying Woodford Green, Darren Ivory’s men staging a fine comeback in the field before going down by 1 wicket . Brook were indebted to a fine partnership between Brad Winsley (35) and skipper Ivory (55), which rescued the visitors from 44-5, however there was precious little else to write home about as Green youngster Ali Akram dominated, picking up the outstanding figures of 6-19 from his 8 overs.
The Woodford Green reply looked well on track as skipper Sayaad Hussain hit a fine 75, but from 115-2, the hosts looked to finish the game in a hail of boundaries and suffered a collapse provoked by the accurate drift of Joe Barwick (3-27) and Winsley's spin (3-20) and when Pawan Singh took the 9th wicket, a couple of runs were still required.
Akram then chanced a quick single off Winsley to tie the scores and whether he would have beaten Lee Jones’s throw had the Ayran all rounder hit the stumps is anyone’s guess, however unfortunately Jones missed and the backing up was somewhat lacking, so Green’s final pair ran an overthrow to clinch the win in an excellent game.
