Brook’s Seconds battled against Hawks with a draw the outcome, in a high scoring affair at May & Bakers on Saturday.
Visiting skipper, Kester Baptiste, won the toss and elected to bat. Baptiste himself scored an excellent 40 whilst Eamond Alexander (87) and Kariq Cabey (50) saw the visitors amass 272 for 8 before declaring. Karamat Ali (3 for 39) was the pick of the home attack whilst Pawanpreet Singh’s marathon 16 over spell yielded 2 for 76 as Goresbrook were set a target of 273 from 48 overs.
After tea, Vara Prasad departed for 4 but this brought together Captain Rohit Sharma and Pawanpreet Singh. Singh’s impressive selection of shots yielded 8 boundaries as he recorded a fine 52. Sharma opted for a more cautious approach keeping his wicket as ‘Brook mounted their challenge. Mahfooz Mazunder clubbed 5 fours and 4 maximums in an entertaining 61 forming part of a fourth wicket stand with his skipper worth 85. Batsmen began to depart with alarming regularity with Baptiste (4 for 30) being the main protagonist with the ball. Sharma kept his cool and fashioned 13 fours and a huge six in a superb knock before being run out by Cabey for 90. This thwarted the hosts hopes of success and they did well to hang on for a draw with nine down as the spoils were shared.
