Brook’s second string eased to a comfortable 5 wicket victory over local rivals Aztecs 2nds at the M & B Sports Ground on Saturday.
Visiting skipper, Faraz Saeed won the toss and elected to bat first and was rueing his decision as his side crumbled in the face of excellent bowling from the home attack. Siraj Zafar (2 for 41) and Amir Javed struck early as wickets tumbled with alarming regularity for the Chadwell Heath outfit. Saikat Roy battled with a solid 32 but Karamat Ali (4 for 44) and Pawanpreet Singh (3 for 38) ran amok with the ball as Aztecs were reduced to 144 all out.
After the tea interval, excellent fielding saw both Javed and home captain Rohit Sharma run out cheaply. ‘Keeper Vara Prasad battened down the hatches with a dogged 39 allowing Sikander Khan (33) and Abdullah Ahmed (22) to go for their shots. Teenager Jack Gibson was the pick of the home batting smashing a six and seven fours in an entertaining, unbeaten 39 to lead his team across the winning line.
Goresbrook 2nd 148 for 7 from 41.1 Overs (20 points) beat Aztecs 2nd 144 all out from 36.3 Overs (5 points) by 3 wickets
