After the events of the winter, it had appeared that sport at the May & Bakers Ground had been consigned to the history vaults so it was a great day to see the return of cricket at the venue. Brookâs second string read the script and duly got off to the best possible start with a stirring 50 run victory over Leigh-on-Sea.
Openers Prasad (28) and Zafar (20) gave the hosts the ideal fillip and Kausik Yeluri cemented the good start, finding the rope nine times, on his way to a superb run a ball 65. All-rounder, Manish Battan, clubbed 38 before the sting in the tail was provided courtesy of Sri Srividyanandan (30), Pawanpreet Singh (22) and Hussain Chowdhury (21) enabling the Dagenham side to amass a daunting 287 for 5 from their allotted 45 overs.
After the tea interval Sri and Battan made immediate inroads with the new ball sending both openers back cheaply. Elliott (42) and Wheatley (33) dug in for the Seasiders before both falling to the spin of Singh who returned 3 for 41. The visitors were boosted by Burch (67 not) and Parker (31) who combined to compile a 6th wicket partnership of 61. Home Skipper Rohit Sharma had the last word, with a two wicket salvo, to restrict Leigh to 237, securing 20 points for Goresbrook.
Goresbrook 2nd 287 for 9 from 45 Overs (20 points) beat Leigh-on-Sea 2nd 237 for 7 from 45 Overs (8 points) by 50 Runs
