Goresbrook’s second string enjoyed their trip to the seaside securing an emphatic nine wicket victory at Southchurch Park on Saturday. Visiting skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first and his decision was immediately vindicated as Karnal Kalyan ran through the home side’s top order with a stirring spell of 5 for 30 from 10 accurate overs. Ali Raza (3 for 30) and Karamat Ali ( 2 for 28) ensured there was no hiding place for the Seasiders who, despite Scott Elliott’s brave 21, were whittled out for only 123.
After tea, ‘Brook’s opening pairing of Asghar Ali and Afzal Hussain proved there were no demons in the pitch as both struck entertaining half tons in an enterprising opening stand of 122. Hussain fashioned eleven boundaries, finishing unbeaten on 54 with the only blip for the Dagenham side coming when partner Ali, who, after finding the rope a dozen times, was run out for a sparkling 62. With the target agonisingly close, George Sleight joined the fray clubbing a four to ensure there were no further hiccups as the Dagenham side clinched their fourth victory of the campaign.
