Goresbrook’s first eleven gave their display of collapso cricket on Saturday when they entertained Westcliff-on-Sea at May & Bakers Sports Ground. Boasting the best current form in the Division, Seasiders skipper Charlie Lockhart won the toss and elected to bat first. A disciplined display from ‘Brook’s seamers saw Daryl Forward and Kane Messenger grab two wickets apiece in the early exchanges. Prin Patel led Cliff’s recovery with an excellent 54 before being bowled by Hussain Chowdhury. The right arm spinner claimed an impressive 4 for 15 from 5.2 overs to close the visitors innings on 133.
After tea, a series of rash shots saw home batsmen departing with alarming regularity. Paceman Callum Mortimer exploited his height with a match winning spell of 5 for 20 supported by Sam Adley (2 for 15). Muhammad Attuallah (17) top scored the home side but their fate was sealed when Daryl Forward holed out to Kumar with ‘Brook reduced for a meagre 97.
