Goresbrook’s first eleven slumped to a five wicket reversal against visitors, Shenfield, at the M & B Sports Ground on Saturday. Home skipper Jordan Calverley won the toss and elected to bat first on a good wicket.
After the departure of Lee Jones for 11, ‘keeper Imon Ahmed buckled down for a solid 31. Ahmed was joined at the crease by Captain Calverley who crafted a superb 61 from 95 balls. The 32 year old, right handed bat, fashioned 7 fours and a maximum in his half century before falling to the impressive Rickenbach who bagged 4 for 33 in a fine eight over spell. Imon was the victim of Shenfield’s overseas star Seleka who also claimed four scalps at a cost of 22 to effectively rip the heart out of the hosts middle and late order. Toriqual Islam (21) was the only other home batter to notch double figures as the Dagenham outfit folded to an under par 159 all out.
After tea, Brook’s bowlers made an early impact with the new ball as Shenfield were two down for 27 before Arnold (42) and Austin (20) steadied their nerves. Jackson (26) took the reply up a notch and it was left to Seleka (26 not) and Howard (16 not) to steer the visitors through to a comfortable five wicket victory.
Goresbrook 1st 159 all out from 43 Overs (3 points) lost to Shenfield 1st 160 for 5 from 35.5 Overs (20 points) by 5 wickets
