

Goresbrook’s first eleven maintained their home form with an exciting two wicket victory over old adversaries, Woodford Green giving skipper Kane Messenger the ideal present on his 34th birthday. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the visitors made hay with openers Aditya Shukla (78) and Husnan Kasmi (71) compiling a mammoth opening stand of 156. Muhammad Attuallah entered the fray trapping both batsmen leg before wicket in a fine spell of 4 for 41. Spinners Shane Barwick (2 for 25) and Saad bin Yousuf (2 for 45) supported as ‘Brook bowled themselves back into the contest to arrest the free scoring Green’s acceleration with a target of 220 well within reach.
After tea, Goresbrook suffered the worst possible start with Jordan Calverley back in the hutch without troubling the scorer. Fellow opener Lee Jones held his nerve and demonstrated resilience with a solid 31. Jones was joined at the crease by Shane Barwick with the pair posting 108 for the third wicket to give the home side a springboard to victory. Barwick’s compelling knock contained 11 fours and a maximum before departing on 70. Harris Latif (5 for 40) swung the contest back in Green’s favour and had the hosts teetering at 127 for 7. Bin Yousuf and Attuallah picked up the gauntlet for the Dagenham outfit combining in an eighth wicket stand of 55 before the latter holed out off the bowling of Shukla for a brave 30. ‘Keeper Jordan Harris (13 not) continued the run chase supporting colleague bin Yousuf who saw Goresbrook through to a thrilling finish with an entertaining unbeaten 38 to clinch a dramatic two wicket victory with ten balls to spare.
