Goresbrook’s first eleven had their bowlers to thanks when clinching a dramatic 15 run victory at May & Bakers Sports Ground on Saturday.
Visiting Skipper, Ryan Plom, won the toss and invited the hosts to bat – his decision was vindicated by Scott Duggins’ early two wicket salvo. Shane Barwick (34) and Saad bin Yousuf (27) led the recovery with opener Lee Jones displaying dogged resilience carving out a hard earned 20 from 60 deliveries.
Jeff West (3 for 37) plus a brace of victims apiece for Gus Philpott and Stephen Edwards, saw ‘Hill gain the upper hand but captain Kane Messenger’s late 22 lifted ‘Brook to 151 all out to give the home attack some wiggle room to work with.
After tea, Goresbrook’s bowlers produced a stirring display with the ball supported with some sharp work in the field. Livash Ramduth, Daryl Forward and Messenger each bagged a couple of scalps to put the game in the balance. With Shahbaz Iqbal (25) and right arm spinner, bin Yousuf (4 for 24), going head to head the outcome rested on a knife edge but the latter won the day when forcing a loose shot from the former who departed, courtesy of a brilliant Garnett Shallow catch, to clinch an exciting 15 run victory for the Dagenham outfit.
Goresbrook 1st 151 all out from 45.2 Overs (20 points) beat Horndon-on-the-Hill 1st 136 all out from 47.2 Overs (5 points) by 15 Runs
