Goresbrook’s 1st Eleven returned to form after their reversal at Harlow Town with an impressive victory at Chalkwell Park on Saturday. Home Captain James Spencer won the toss and elected to bat on a sunny afternoon but was rueing his decision as the visitors produced a superb display with the ball complemented by some sharp work in the field. ‘Brook Skipper Kane Messenger’s fiery opening spell yielded two early wickets and the introduction of seamer Daryl Forward (3 for 35) wrought havoc amongst the Seasiders early order. James Pettitt dug in with a resilient 25 before being undone by Muhammad Attualllah and Stuart Elliott led a middle order fightback with a battling 34. Messenger then resorted to the guile of left arm spin twins Livash Ramduth (2 for 19) and Shane Barwick (1 for 25) as the pair turned the screw in tandem for 18 overs reducing the hosts to 140 all out from 41.2 overs.
After tea the Dagenham outfit suffered early setbacks as pacemen Spencer sent Shaun Ross back to the hutch without troubling the scorer swiftly followed by Lee Jones trapped leg before for a single run. Leigh’s brief hopes of victory were soon extinguished by a superb unbroken third wicket stand of 141 between Jordan Calverley and Shane Barwick. Calverley found the rope on seven occasions in a compelling unbeaten 51 whilst Barwick also finished unbeaten on 62, accumulating 9 fours and a huge six to secure a comfortable eight victory for the visiting side and second place in the league table.
