A typically aggressive 78 from Jordan Calverley was the highlight as Goresbrook beat a youthful Upminster side to remain unbeaten in the ESL Premier Division. Calverley upped the scoring rate after a strong start provided by Craig Irving (50) and Charlie Thompson (21), with Nicky Ison bearing the brunt of his strokeplay, the Upminster skipper going for 66 from his 8 overs. Youngsters Oliver White and Tom Daniels did a good job to reign the home side in in the closing overs, Goresbrook having to settle for 210-5 from their 40 overs.
That proved enough however, as with their big guns playing a SNEL T20 game, the promising Upminster batsmen couldn’t get going against accurate opening spells from Joe Barwick 8-2-14-1 and Bobby Gaymer 7-4-13-1. Adi Kumar then took 3 quick wickets to leave Upminster in trouble at 45-6 and although they rallied strongly behind and excellent 56 from Adi Kullar, 2 wickets from Calverley and a first wicket of the season for Mark Bird, saw Upminster dismissed in the 39th over for 139.
Brook visit Harold Wood next weekend looking for a third successive win in their first year in the top division.
