Big boys (and girl) blitz Belhus

Following a spate of cancellations by local teams Goresbrook U9's took to the road again in this ad hoc game against Belhus (who had themselves been stood up a few days earlier by the same culprit) on Friday night.
Fielding first Brook made regular inroads into the home line up with wickets for Bella Boland, Grace Wood, Archie Dias and 3 for for the effervescent Philippe Thoufick plus run outs from Harry Ivory and Stanley Sleight. The fielders once again took a few overs to adjust to the small pitch and curb their excitement when run out opportunities presented themselves but overall a solid bowling performance got its just rewards with Belhus closing their innings on 248-8.
In reply Brook opened with the least experienced pairing of Bella Boland (1) and Riley Biggs (9) ( making his debut) and this pair aided by some good running and a few wides added 26 in their four overs.
Thereafter all the batters put on a good show:
Albert Sleight 10;
Grace Wood 4;
Harry Ivory 3;
Archie Dias 8 including his first ever four; but Brooks senior players batted superbly as they amassed an Australian sized total with Albie Smith scoring 18 and Phil Thoufick 23 in a mammoth partnership of 53.
Skipper Stanley Sleight then put the cherry on top of the icing with a sublime 28 including a six to take the final total up to 340-5 and a fine 92 run victory.
The youngsters now have a game at home on Friday evening against Ardleigh Green before a tournament at Belhus on Friday week.
