Goresbrook's youngest team found themselves pitted against a considerably more experienced Hornchurch Athletic outfit this Wednesday past but they performed with distinction in a close fought battle.
Fielding first Brook were on the receiving end of it at times but braces for Grace Wood and Albie Smith and further wickets for Tommy Smith and debutant Philippe Thoufick knocked 30 runs from the visitors total under Terriers rules. Thoufick took an astonishing 4 catches in the field and Ted Ivory took a further two. There was also a marked improvement in the number of wides conceded across the innings so all in all the fielding performance was much better than could be expected against a strong opposition.
In reply both of Brooks first two pairs made steady undefeated progress: Tyler Fredericks and Pawan Singh adding 16 and Stanley Sleight and Albie Smith 9. Wickets did fall thereafter but 10 from Thoufick and an undefeated 19 from Ted Ivory saw Brook to within single figures of their target against a much stronger and experienced team.
