U11's magnanimous in defeat

Goresbrook u11's came up against a very good Upminster side at May and Baker on Monday evening.
On a used pitch , dulled somewhat by the previous days rain, a weakened Brook team failed to find any fluency in their batting and were largely reliant on wides to help get their final score up to 292. However the loss of 8 wickets brought this down to a net 252 which was never going to be enough against the visitors. There were boundaries for Jack Gibson and Vajran Sri but otherwise it was only Charlie Trowell with 16 who shone with the bat.
Nevertheless a younger and less experienced side than those which had performed so well at Hornchurch Athletic and Gidea Park gave Upminster a huge scare with a determined showing in the field, taking 5 wickets in 12 balls, however Upminster's strength in depth proved too much for Brook.
There were wickets for Sriraman Sri, Charlie T, Vajran Sri, and 3 run outs effected by Ben, Liam and Vajran but the bowling performance of the day has to go to 10 year old Lily Nunes in only her second ever hard ball game, who grabbed 2 wickets in 4 balls with a catch by Vajran and a caught and bowled as much to her own surprise as to her team mates and supporters!
Credit should also go to Ben Atkins for an athletic display behind the sticks and to the team as a whole for a sporting display that drew praise from the visiting coaches and players. Well done to all for that.
Next up for the u11's is the mini matchplay at the county ground in Chelmsford on Monday 13th August.
