Goresbrook U11's 229 all out lost to Upminster A 299-7 by 70 runs

Goresbrook U11's had hitherto been undefeated in Havering League games this season but found that record well and truly destroyed by a strong Upminster 'A' at a blustery May and Baker ground on Sunday.
Again a glut of wide deliveries affected the overall score but aside from a brace of wickets from Frankie Boland 2-16 and one each from Nathan Dowridge 1-12, Tyler Fredericks 1-12 and the ever dependable Stanley Sleight 1-6 all the bowlers with the exception of the aforementioned Sleight and Matthew Elsom 0-7 conceded double figures which could only mean a huge score was on the cards; Upminster's Thomas hitting 18 from the penultimate over. A couple of late run outs did little to add any respectability to the final total of 299-7 from the allotted 20 overs.
Brook's reply started disastrously when four wickets were lost for just 12 runs by the opening pair and wickets continued to fall at an alarming rate, with run outs not helping one bit. Only the pairing of Pawanpreet Singh 0* and Tommy Smith 7* got through their 4 overs keeping their wickets intact and the free scoring Alfie Atkins continued his recent vein of form with 18* but in the end this was far too little too late and the boys ended up well short of their target losing the match by 70 runs.
Hopefully by the next game against Upminster B work will have been done with the boys on their accuracy whilst bowling and on their calling whilst batting. Improving these basics will greatly enhance their competitiveness especially against some of the leagues stronger sides.
