Goresbrook won the toss and elected to bat first at the main ground, Higham’s Park on Sunday morning. Skipper Shane Barwick and twelve year old Charlie Thompson started well putting on 35 for the first wicket, until Thompson fell for 13. Ross McCarthy then went for a golden duck which brought Joel Oliver to the crease and the runs started coming briskly. Barwick had to retire on 30, his fourth innings for the under 15’s this season and he still has yet to get out. This innings lasted 30 balls and included five boundaries. Oliver retired not long after, his knock lasting just 25 balls and included four boundaries. Ben Irving kept up the tempo hitting 27 before being run out, his knock lasting just 22 balls, and there was 13 not out for Jack Stead as 'Brook piled up 152 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, West Essex were totally outclassed as Bobby Gaymer bowled with real pace and zest, whilst Ausman Ginai bowled with accuracy at the other end. Gaymer (0 for 4) and Ginai (1 for 16) from 4 overs were backed up by in-form spinner Billy Smith who had superb figures of 3 for 4 from 3 overs. Jack Stead (1 for 11) and Aaron Scott (1 for 4) chipped in and there were three run outs with Ausman Ginai producing two fine throw-ins and a direct hit from Joel Oliver, as West Essex were routed for a meagre 43, giving 'Brook a resounding 109 run victory.
