Goresbrook 4's travelled up to Aythorpe Roding for their division 9 TRippon clash with Old Chelmsfordians 3's on Saturday but rain curtailed a game that looked like it was evenly poised.
Brook lost the toss, were asked to bat and were soon in trouble at 2-2 as the accurate Alice Green teased Steve Rooke and Darren Johnson into false shots that found eager fielders. Runs were very hard to come by and only 5 had been scored from the opening 10 overs before Ted Ivory and George Sleight mounted a steady recovery accumulating singles , then doubles and even a boundary! Ivory was first to fall , with the total on 33 for 17 and Sleight followed soon after for 12. Darren Ivory 26* and Pawan Singh continued rebuilding and a flurry of boundaries had taken the score up to 65-4 from 29 overs when engorged grey clouds dropped their burden on the picturesque ground. Covers were hastily rolled on but persistent rain, drizzle, thunder and lightning soon put paid to any prospect of a result.
