Goresbrook U13  v  Upminster 'C' U13   Havering League   Sun 21/8/11

Upminster 101 for 6 lost to Goresbrook 102 for 0 by 10 wickets.

Goresbrook’s Under 13’s earned the plaudits with a superb batting display in a handsome 10 wicket victory at M & B Annex Ground on Sunday morning. Early in the exchanges, visitors Upminster were boosted by a fine 25 from Nathaniel who was forced to retire under League rules. Harry Jackson excelled with the ball claiming 2 for 4 from 3 economical overs. Jamie Flint (1 for 13) and Danny Gilham (1 for 16) provided staunch support whilst Aaron Chopra caught the eye with 1 for 6 and a sharp run out as the visitors were restricted to 101 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs.

After the interval, Goresbrook’s batsmen were in commanding form as Jack Sleight found the rope four times before retiring on 25. Daniel Parnell (26 ret) and all rounder Jackson (25 ret) each fashioned five boundaries before Ross Mahoney (6 not) and Lee Jones (2 not) compounded Upminster’s misery by steering the hosts to victory with all wickets still intact

Goresbrook U13  v  Benfleet U13   Peter Coe Cup   Sun 7/8/11

Benfleet 120 for 7 lost to Goresbrook 121 for 0 by 10 wickets

A young  Benfleet team were invited to bat first in this 30 overs a side game. The Benfleet opening batsmen struggled initially as the Goresbrook opening bowlers, Sam Brooks and Charlie Thompson, bowled excellent 4-over spells, with Thompson claiming a wicket for just 9 runs. The introduction of Harry Jackson and skipper Liam Gallacher didn't help the Benfleet run rate at all. Gallacher reeled off 4 maidens in his 5 over spell taking 2 wickets for just 2 runs. Wickets were hard to come by but so were runs until the arrival at the crease of Critchell who struck three 4's in a battling 21 not out. Wheelan (15) and Mason (11) also contributed but both were undone by Kiran Nanu whose 2 over spell ended two promising partnerships. Benfleet ended their 30 overs with a creditable 120 for 7.

In reply, the Goresbrook openers never looked in trouble as both Gallacher and Brooks stroked the bowling around the ground. Brooks looked especially at ease as he rounded off a good day hitting seven 4's before retiring on 50. Gallacher's day also finished well as he was retired on 39. Goresbrook reached the required 121 without the loss of a single batsman to record a 10 wicket victory.

Goresbrook U13  v  Leyton County U13    Peter Coe Cup   Sun 10/7/11

Leyton County 40 all out lost to Goresbrook 41 for 6 by 4 wickets

Goresbrook won the toss and elected to field first in this Peter Coe Cup encounter. The Leyton batsmen made a steady, if unspectacular start, against some accurate swing bowling. However, the loss of the first wicket with the score on 10 opened the floodgates and the wickets began to tumble with alarming regularity. Opening bowlers Sam Brooks (4 overs, 1 for 13) and Charlie Thompson (5 overs, 2 for 11) both bowled superbly to begin the rout, but it was the introduction of Harry Jackson that sealed the fate of the Leyton innings. He bowled with aggression and pace to claim 4 wickets from 3 overs conceding just 7 runs. He was ably assisted in two of those wickets by some smart glovework by inexperienced keeper Dominic Gurden, Some sharp fielding and accurate throwing by Daniel Parnell gained two run outs, whilst skipper Liam Gallacher (1 over, 1 for 5) finished off the innings to leave Leyton on a considerable under par 40 all out after just 12.2 overs.

Chasing such a low score it was decided to give some of the lower order batsmen an opportunity to bat, however the accurate Leyton bowling showed up the shortcomings in many of the batsmen's techniques and Goresbrook found themselves 5 wickets down for just 20 runs, only Gallacher (7) proving an obstacle to the Leyton bowlers. Ross Mahoney steadied the nerves, but after his demise for 7 it was left to the usual top order batsmen Jack Sleight (7 no) and Jackson (4 no ) to calmly see home the innings, Goresbrook reaching 41 for the loss of 6 wickets in 18.6 overs to claim a 4 wicket win.

Fives & Heronians U13  v  Goresbrook U13   Peter Coe Cup   Sun 12/6/11

Fives & Heronians 183 for 3 beat Goresbrook 81 for 9 by 102 runs

Goresbrook U13's latest venture in the 30 over Peter Coe Cup competition was certainly a wet and cold affair. The home team won the toss and elected to bat first. The constant rain caused the 'Brook bowlers and fielders no end of problems and the Fives batsmen took advantage of this by amassing a gigantic score courtesy of some massive hitting, good running between the wickets and some very poor fielding. Kiran Nanu (2 overs, 1 for 23) and Harry Jackson with two superb run outs were the only two 'Brook players to have any success as Fives racked up 183 for 3 in their reduced innings of 20 overs.

In reply, the Fives bowlers and fielders certainly handled the conditions better and a steady loss of wickets meant that the Goresbrook batsmen were never in any danger of keeping up with the rate. Charlie Thompson fought hard to make the score respectable with a dogged innings of 34, but no one was able to stay with him. The innings petered out with 'Brook reaching only 81 for 9 from their 20 overs to leave Fives comprehensive winners by 102 runs.

Harold Wood U13  v  Goresbrook U13   Havering League   Sun 29/5/11

Goresbrook 113 for 7 beat Harold Wood 106 for 8 by 7 runs

Goresbrook were invited to open the batting in their first Havering league encounter of the season. The early loss of opener Jack Sleight was soon forgotten as Owen Clayton(8) and debutant Owen Attard (3) put on 17 for the second wicket. But it wasn’t until the entrance of skipper Harry Jackson that the fireworks began. He played absolutely magnificently, hitting five 4’s and an immense extra cover drive for 6 on his way to 32 retired. He was ably supported by another new lad Louis Mackman who played watchfully for his 9 runs. Daniel Parnell carried on the good work as he stroked six 4’s for a well crafted 29. Andrew Pauling (4) and third debutant Adam Parker (4 no) saw Goresbrook through to a more than useful 113 for 7 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Wood got off to good start putting on 22 for the first wicket as normally accurate leg spinner Sam Cross never quite got his radar right conceding 21 runs from his 4 overs. However fellow opening bowler Kiran Nanu bowled a superb opening spell of four overs for just 12 runs. The game turned though with the introduction of Jackson who ripped through the middle order with a lively 2 over spell claiming 3 wickets for only 2 runs. Jack Sleight (2 for 9) and Jamie Flint (1 for 11) continued the good work, however some loose bowling kept Wood up with the required rate. Jackson had to be re-introduced to the attack as 11 was required by the Wood batsmen off the last over. Jackson conceded only four runs to guide 'Brook home to a 7 run win with Wood 106 for 8 from their 20 overs.

Old Parkonians U13  v  Goresbrook U13   Peter Coe Cup   Sun 15/5/11

Goresbrook 87 for 9 lost to Old Parkonians 88 for 2 by 8 wickets

Goresbrook skipper Liam Gallacher won the toss and elected to bat first. From the outset the Old Parks bowlers had the batsmen on the back foot with some quick accurate bowling. Skipper Gallacher, Charlie Thompson and Harry Jackson all got starts but all three fell for 10 runs each, leaving 'Brook struggling at 46 for 4. Owen Clayton (5), Sam Cross (7) and Jamie Flint (7) all tried in vain to keep the scoreboard moving, but could only get 'Brook up to 87 for 9 in their allotted 30 overs.

In reply, the Goresbrook bowlers had no answer to the power of the Parks batsmen as they smashed their way to the required target of 88 in just 10 overs. Ross Mahoney (4 overs, 2 for 47) was the only bowler to claim wickets although Sam Cross (2 overs, 0 for 5) was the pick of the rest. An 8 wicket defeat was a harsh lesson for ten of the boys whose first game it was at this level and they are under no illusions that this is going to be tough assignment in this competition, but they are prepared to battle on.
