‘Brook continued their push for the Sunday League ‘double’ with an exciting 14 run victory over Waltham. The hosts maintained their unbeaten record led by another turbo charge performance from Afzal Hussain. The 30 year old right handed opener found the rope on 16 occasions in a magnificent century, his second of the campaign, finally departing on 110 for the penultimate wicket becoming Ali’s third victim of the innings. Jordan Harris supported with an excellent 43 enabling ‘Brook to reach 179 with almost 10 of their 40 over entitlement remaining.
After tea, openers Imran (36) and Hammad (26) started brightly for the visitors. Teenager Aditya Patel produced an accurate spell of 3 for 14 to put the hosts back into the ascendancy but a middle order charge saw five successive Waltham batsmen record double figures, putting them in sight of victory. A three wicket salvo from the returning Kane Messenger applied the brakes to the visitors’ run chase. With Waltham requiring 18 from the last over, skipper Ted Ivory stepped up to the plate and restricted them to only 3 securing a 14 run success for the Dagenham outfit.
