‘Brook maintained their push for the Sunday League title with an emphatic 106 run victory over Hutton. The hosts preserved their unbeaten record thanks largely to a impressive display with the willow. Record holder of the highest individual score for the Club, 30 year old Afzal Hussain, signalled his return to form with a magnificent unbeaten 137 finding the rope on 17 occasions with a series of hooks pulls and cuts. 23 year old Lee Jones provided the perfect foil for Hussain with an impressive knock of 71 which included five boundaries. Hussain and Jones, both being products of Goresbrook’s Colts Section, combined to post a new club record 6th wicket partnership of 219. Robbie Morris (3 for 32) was the pick of the visiting attack who were put to the sword as the home side amassed 264 for 5 from their 40 over entitlement.
After tea, Benjamin Parry (44), Harry Sanderson (34) and an excellent unbeaten half century from Dan Latham were the bright spots for Hutton but Siraj Zafar (2 for 48) and a scalp apiece for Kane Messenger, Ted Ivory and Mark Bird ultimately kept the run rate in check as ‘Brook cruised to a handsome 106 run success.
