Goresbrook thrashed Neo by 7 wickets at the historic Leyton County Ground on Sunday. Mohammad Hasan Mahmud struck an entertaining 95 before holing out to ‘Brook skipper Ted Ivory as Showan Mitra complemented his batting partner with an unbeaten 44. Brook’s attack maintained their enthusiasm and Ivory and Siraj Zafar were rewarded with two wickets apiece as Neo closed on a daunting 215 from their 40 over entitlement.
After tea, ‘Brook continued the theme of their wonderful weekend combining astute defence with attacking flair to smother their opponents with a superlative batting display. Danny Gillham (jnr) fashioned a dozen boundaries in an exciting 81 whilst Shane Barwick made hay clubbing nine fours and two towering maximums in an undefeated 82 – the pair combining in a third wicket partnership of 129. The returning Afzal Hussain no doubt remembering the feat of scoring his individual club record of 218, showed his liking for the venue with a sleek undefeated 32 to complete the 7 wicket drubbing.
