U11's start with a defeat...
..... but a good all round performance from the 8 youngsters.
Goresbrook u11's started their season at home to Ardleigh Green on Sunday morning.
Goresbrook were two players short and had three making their debuts.
Skipper Liam Elsom lost the toss and was asked to bat first.
Ollie Fredericks and Charlie Trowell opened proceeding adding 16 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
Liam Elsom and Charlie Collins added 19 for the loss of 1 wicket
Grace Wood and Ryan Bucktrout added 22 for the loss of 2 wickets
Ben Atkins and Jack Gibson added 14 for the loss of 1 wicket
Finally, Liam Elsom and Grace Wood added 17 for the loss of 1 wicket with both batters hitting 2 boundaries.
All the batters scored runs and there was some good running between the wickets particularly from the more experienced players.
Under Terriers rules Brooks gross 288 was reduced to 253.
Ardleigh Greens reply was rocked by an early Liam Elsom wicket but despite some accurate bowling, Brook struggled to make inroads into the visiting batting. Two smart run outs; a chase, turn and throw from Ben Atkins behind the stumps and a race to the stumps from Liam Elsom gave brook a sliver of hope but a smattering of runs from Greens last pair meant Ben Atkins wicket came just too late.
Brook fielded brilliantly, especially given the gaps in the field and on another day may have the luck to win through.
There were maidens for Ollie and Charlie T and impressive fielding displays from Jack and Ryan, both on debut.
However this game, played in the right way throughout, gives plenty of positives for the next few games and the rest of the season.
