13's suffer defeat in first game of the season

Goresbrook under 13s started the 2013 campaign with a heavy defeat to Hornchurch Athletic by 62 runs in this Havering Cup match played at the May & Baker Club on 5th May 2013. Goresbrook captain Lee Jones won the toss and put the visitors into bat. The home side got off to a fantastic start taking 2 wickets in the first over, one from a run out by Jayden Simmonds and an excellent ball from George Smith to dissmiss Connor, leaving the visitors on 4 for 2 after just one over. After this, Hornchurch knuckled down and Goresbrook's bowlers only took another two wickets, Aditya Kumar (15 for 1) and Henry Sleight (16 for 1). George Smith was the pick of the Goresbrook bowlers with figures of 16 for 1 from his four overs. Hornchurch Athletic finished their innings on 107 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs with Joe getting 24 not out and Daniel 31 not out.

After the break the Goresbrook batsmen found it tough going trying to score off some very good bowling from the visitors attack. None of the batsmen managed to reach double figures with only Lee Jones (9) and Tahmid Kondhakar (9) showing any resistance. Goresbrook finished their innings 45 all out from 17 overs, falling well short of Hornchurch Athletic's total of 107.
