4's lose their season opener.

Big improvements needed.
Brook's 4th string took a 10 strong team to the De Rougemont ground in Great Warley but found themselves on the end of a stern lesson,
Losing the toss, Brook were asked to bat on a pitch that was well grassed but quite wet from the morning rain.
The early exchanges found the pitch showing signs of erratic bounce, understandable given the years of neglect that preceded Brentwood's decision to invest heavily in the ground and facilities, but George Sleight and Dave Leadbetter got off to a good start. However Leadbetter fell to a half pitch grubber and was soon followed back to the hutch by Sleight.
Keith Maund was joined by the first of 3 debutants, u13 John Nicholls, but was run out following some confusion after a dropped catch. Nicholls grew in confidence as his innings developed and he and Owen Elsom added 25 runs before Elsom fell to a yorker and Nicholls was bowled for 19 following an mature inning belying his young years.
Habib Latif held up an end comfortably in his first game for 4 years and Grace Wood hit a boundary in her first adult game but the innings unfortunately petered out with more than 5 overs remaining with the score on just 86.
The talk at tea was of how this Brentwood team had won the division in which Goresbrook 3's have been placed this season so Brook knew it would be hard task , indeed Brentwood's batsmen came out all guns blazing and the score was at 50 after just 6 overs. Owen Elsom slowed the scoring rate down with a maiden and Paul Atkins grabbed Brook's solitary wicket before Brentwood crossed the finishing post with more than 20 overs to spare.
Goresbrook 4's 86 all out.
George Sleight 15
John Nicholls 19
Owen Elsom 10
Brentwood 5's 87-1
Paul Atkins 1-13.
