Athletic have the Wood on the 4s

96* from Sam not enough as 4's fall short by 30

An heroic innings of 96 not out by u16 Sam Wood proved not quite enough for the 4s to chase down Hornchurch Athletic’s 186-6. Skipper Ricci Parnell impressed with the ball taking Richie Benaud’s favourite analysis of 2-22. However 92* from Spencer Duke and 41 from Athletic skipper Steve Richards got the Hylands Park side up to a challenging 186-6 from their 40 overs.

Although George Sleight (28) and Wood took the score to 91-2, once Sleight went Wood started to run out of partners and although he mixed watchful defence with some impressive hitting, striking 6 sixes and 5 fours, Wood fell agonisingly short of a maiden ton, the innings closing 31 runs short with Wood stranded one shot away from his hundred.
