Another defeat for the 3's

Goresbrook 3's suffered another deafeat on the road, this time against Wanstead and Snaresbrook 6's at the London Marathon sports ground in Fairlop.
Alfie Atkins won the toss and elected to bowl but Wanstead's openers raced to 49 without loss from just seven overs which saw the malady that has affected Brooks fielders all season rear it's head again as a simple chance was dropped at cover.
Bobby Granger and Owen Elsom applied the brakes with some accurate bowling and the first wicket fell when Siaraj Zafar misfielded at mid on but returned the ball for Paul Atkins behind the stumps to remove the bails with the batsman out of his ground. Granger bowled unchanged for the maximum 14 overs and was rewarded with two wickets for 24 runs; the first a reflex catch at square leg by Arayaman Parida and the second by Zafar at mid on.
Wanstead looked to accelerate and bagan picking up regular singles and the occasional boundary. 15 year old Parida retuned and produced a testing second spell that produced two deserved wickets.
While Brook effected 3 run out in the innings, throwing to hand rather than at the stumps should have resulted in a couple more and an extra bonus point as Wanstead closed their innings on 180-8 from 45 overs.
Once the ususally steadfast Andy Livett was run out by a direct throw from cover Brook were only ever looking to scrape a draw from the game but lost wickets at an alarming rate. While Owen Elsom and John Nicholls did knuckle down with an 8th wicket partnership of 23 Brook were always up against it and fell to a comprehensive 110 run defeat with 10.1 overs unbowled.
Next week the 3's visit Fairlop again with a game against Ilford 4's.
