Goresbrook 3's endured a sound defeat against a well drilled West Essex 4's on Saturday at the Annexe.
Ricci Parnell won the toss and opted to field first on a well grassed, damp topped pitch. Early wickets for Siraj Zafar, John Nicholls and Mafi Choudhary got Brook off to a good start but otherwise good ground fielding and accurate bowling were undone by a good half dozen chances being spilt, and despite late wickets for Owen Elsom and Karnail Kalyan, West Essex were allowed to set a challenging target of 180-5 when they declared after 45 overs.
Only two batters were to make double figures in Brook's feeble reply of 79 all out with Lovelin Mostra (45) leading a counter attacking charge and John Nicholls grinding out 12 but otherwise there was no sucess in keeping the visiting pace attack at bay as the tail crumbled toa 101 run defeat.
Next week sees the visit of Ilford 5's to the Annexe in a timed league encounter.
