Colonel Time.

Goresbrook 3's continued their strong start to the seaon with an impressive nine wicket victory aagainst Wanstead and Snaresbrook 6th string at the Annexe on Saturday.
Friday's rain had left the pitch very damp in places but the dry morning meant that play started on time.
Losing the toss Brook were asked to field but got off to the best possible start when debutant Mafi Choudhury threw down the stumps from backward point to leave Chris Fry stranded.
Pawan Singh bowled an opening spell with the accuracy of the German railways conceding just 3 runs from his five overs.
Siraj Zafar at the other end got ample reward for his teasing swing with 2 catches, one at cover by Leonard Thoufick and the other by Mafi running at full speed back from point to hold a screamer over his shoulder.
At 10-3 Wanstead were really up against the ropes but opener Alizer and skipper Ash Patel knuckled down. However following drinks John Nicholls bowled a peach of a yorker to remove Alizer lbw for 23 and Bobby Granger grabbed a wicket thanks to a Zafar catch at cover.
Mafi bowled an encouraging spell of spin with some not inconsiderable turn and Owen Elsom grabbed a wicket with the Colonel Kalyan taking a safe catch at mid off and Leonard Thoufick threw down the stumps from cover point
Karnail Kalyan then entered the attack and bowled a probing spell of swing the reward for which was 3 wickets, 1 bowled and the others catches by SIraj and Pawan.
Wanstead were bowled out for 92 with an over left of their allotted 40.

WIth showers passing close by throughout the game the result was by no means certain especially after Alfie Atkins fell early for 2.
However the Marvel Andy Livett and the Colonel batted circumspectly to give themselves a solid platform from which to attack.
A short but heavy shower livened the pitch and made conditions under foot less than ideal and a good two bucketfulls of sawdust was required for both batsmen and bowlers, however a greasy ball made catching difficult and none of the 4 chances offered were taken. Nevertheless Wanstead stuck at thier task and bowled well but Livett with 39* and the Colonel with 42* saw Brook home with 6 overs to spare, Kaylan hitting the winning runs through extra cover.
Wanstead were a far better team than the result might indicate but Brook were on the top of their game throughout.
